Hello everyone, the time has come once again for my intern insight blog post. March is right around the corner and tax season is in full swing. Since my last post, my life has consisted mainly of textbooks, case studies and 1040s. Previously, I wrote about how I was anxious but excited to move on from training and get to the real work, and so far everything has gone smoothly.

I have become familiar with the tax software, having filed several tax returns since my last post, and with every tax return I complete the easier the next seems.  What is great about my internship is the direct relationship from the classroom to the workplace. On Tuesdays and Thursdays before I come to the office I have my Federal Taxation course at Philadelphia University. Not only does this get me in the proper mindset, but I have developed a much better understanding of the subject because I am getting the classroom and office experiences simultaneously.

While I have been working primarily on tax returns recently, my work has varied quite a bit. I do not feel I am getting bogged down doing the same work over and over. I have worked on Trial Balances in ProSystems Engagement, business tax returns, and one of my favorite tasks so far was working on a distribution schedule for a client’s Profit Sharing Plan. I love that I am able to get real world experience that applies directly to what I have learned in the classroom. I cannot quantify the value of my experience because I feel I am gaining skills I will use for the rest of my life. Every day I feel I am improving not only as an office worker, but as a professional as well. My coworkers are all great examples for how to carry yourself in a professional setting, and just from working alongside them I am learning a lot in that aspect.

As the tax season continues I am less anxious for the work to come and more enthusiastic about the opportunity I have. Every day I come to Stephano Slack I learn more, and that is what is most important. Untill the next time!
