15TH ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET ON NOVEMBER 19TH HONORS HERM EDWARDS AND HIS ICONIC PLAY

The Otho Davis Scholarship Foundation (ODSF) is proud to announce that it is celebrating its 15th year of philanthropy in memory of Otho Davis, the Philadelphia Eagles head athletic trainer from 1973-1995. Since 1999, the foundation has been working to raise funds to honor Davis’ wishes of establishing a scholarship for aspiring students studying sports medicine, sports marketing, or a related field.

The ODSF will be hosting its annual banquet on November 19, 2013, exactly 35 years to the day that Herm Edwards shocked the football world with what is now know as the original Miracle of the Meadowlands. The banquet will be held at the Sheraton Society Hill at 5:30pm. This year’s event will honor former Eagles’ cornerback and current ESPN analyst Herm Edwards, former Eagles’ team physician Dr. Arthur Bartolozzi, and the yet to be determined annual scholarship recipient.

Now a charismatic speaker and NFL analyst on ESPN, Herm Edwards is the former head coach of the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs. However, it was on November 19, 1978, that he became a household name. With the New York Giants nursing a 17-12 lead on their home turf and just 31 seconds remaining, the hosts decided not to down the ball and subsequently botched a handoff. Edwards scooped up the ball and dashed 26 yards for the go ahead touchdown completing a 19-17 victory after entering the final quarter down 17-6. The win propelled the Eagles to their first playoff berth in 18 seasons and, conversely, led the Giants to immediately fire its offensive coordinator Bob Gibson, and by season’s end, head coach John McVay.

In an effort to recognize both Dick Vermeil and those who have made significant contributions in the field of sports medicine, the ODSF will bestow former Eagles team physician, Dr. Arthur Bartolozzi, as the second recipient of the Dick Vermeil Award. Besides these presentations the night will be highlighted by great speakers, raffles, and live and silent auctions. Many former Eagles and local celebrities are expected to attend. Tickets can be obtained by calling 877-500-1129 or logging onto www.OthoDavisFoundation.org. The Otho Davis Scholarship Foundation was established November 29, 1999, at a dinner honoring Otho Davis. That night, Otho requested that the net proceeds go towards a scholarship for aspiring students studying sports marketing, sports medicine or a related field. Since the inaugural dinner, the foundation has raised over $100,000 in net proceeds. Otho’s legacy will continue as the foundation officers and board continue to raise funds through contributions, donations, and fundraisers.
